K Bloody Mary Mix is vegan, gluten-free, organic and it's handmade in Brooklyn by seasoned mixologist Khia Nelson. Khia says of her creation, "The particular combination of ingredients I’m using, I blend to create a distinct flavor that has richness and depth so that the heat isn’t just hot, it’s savory and stimulating to your taste buds. You get the full essence and joy after you’ve let it roll around in your mouth – much like you would a great wine or cognac.” K was selected as a 2020 Good Food Awards Finalist - winners will be announced on January 17.
Monique King and Paul Rosenbluh are the chef/owners of Fox's Restaurant in Altadena and Cindy's Restaurant in Eagle Rock. On the Rox Media worked with them for five years when they had their previous restaurant, Firefly Bistro in South Pasadena. The husband and wife chef team recently reached out to us for our marketing, PR and social media expertise to help create awareness about their restaurants and their brand. We're so excited to be working with Mo and Paul again and are going full steam ahead to get the word out about these amazing chefs and their fabulous hidden gem restaurants. Or, should we say "previously" hidden gem restaurants.
At this iconic Altadena restaurant, “Good Food - Served Right” is how King and Rosenbluh describe the food they've been making in their scratch kitchen. The couple bought the restaurant in late 2017 and reopened it in June 2018, maintaining the cool retro vibe but showcasing a completely reworked menu. The corned beef is cured for four days before it becomes the best hash you've ever tasted. Ditto for the brisket which is featured in the Brisket Rueben sandwich. Other menu highlights include Butternut squash doughnuts with oregano honey and walnut curry dip, Meatloaf, Shrimp and Grits, Spiced Lentil soup with rye crostini and salted rosemary butter, and Sourdough onion rings with peach ketchup and basil mustard.
And don't forget about dessert - how about a slice of Derby Pie!
At Cindy's Restaurant, chef/owners Monique King and Paul Rosenbluh's scratch kitchen turns out house-smoked meats, creatively curated fare. Pastry Chef Gian Trinidad creates awe-inspiring desserts and pastries. Just wait until you try the Southern Lemon Pie with Saltine Cracker Crust and candied lemon. The restaurant's retro vibe is peppered with history and a little bit of Hollywood - it has been featured in movies and in music videos for artists like Justin Timberlake. But, at Cindy's it's all about the food, which is accompanied by a side of conviviality - and a bit of people watching. The blue plate special has grown up.
